My Story
A-level chemistry students and parents often ask me why I tutor A-level Chemistry and why I created my company. This is my story – why I chose to tutor A-level Chemistry and why I formed my company.
My Experience With School
When I was in school, I wished that I had teachers who explained concepts to me in a way that I understood. Secondly, I hoped that I knew how to study my course material in a way that made sense to me.
Thirdly, I craved a revision strategy that allowed me to earn grades on my topic tests and final exams that matched my ability and understanding of the course material. Additionally, I wanted the skills, tools, and resources that I needed to keep myself focused on and motivated with my studies.
Finally, I dreamt of having the resources that Brashan Chemistry offers its students today – thorough content knowledge, study skills, revision strategies, and mental resilience coupled with motivational tips.
Tutoring for A-level chemistry students
A-level chemistry students and parents welcome Brashan Chemistry – a modern company with modern values and ideals for today’s chemistry students. In case you are wondering why I am qualified to lead this company, I will introduce myself, so you know that you are in safe hands!
I hold a B. Sc. in Chemistry, an M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry, a Ph.D. in Electro-organic Synthesis, and a PGCE in Secondary Chemistry. I lectured and worked as a Research Chemist before entering the classroom as a teacher for 30+ years. I was KS4 Coordinator for Science, Head of Chemistry in two Grammar Schools, and Head of Science in one. I have been an examiner for AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), and OCR GCSE and A-level Chemistry for almost 20 years.

Our Focus
Being A-level chemistry teachers, we saw in our students what we saw in ourselves all those years ago. Students who weren’t earning a grade that reflected their true potential in A-level Chemistry. Firstly, not because they weren’t trying but because they didn’t have the study skills and revision strategies necessary to gain a deep understanding of the core concepts in the course.
Secondly, they didn’t have the mental resilience to remain focused on their studies or motivated to perform at their best throughout the course.
Finally, they fell into a downward spiral of poor topic test and exam grades that led to a further lack of focus and motivation.
An Idea For A Different Kind Of Tutoring Company
We decided to create a company that gave students the resources and tools that we needed to excel in A-chemistry. They could then develop into well-qualified scientists, doctors, engineers, chemists, and many more.
We didn’t want to create another typical tutoring company in an already busy space. A company that offered students a short-term solution to their current problem just before another problem arrived. We didn’t want to create a tutoring company that offered a quick fix to a problem by helping a student with their homework or helping them cram for topic tests or exams.
We wanted to create a company that solved the student’s problem with A-level chemistry holistically: its services were accessible to all students regardless of geographical location, it offered its services on a sliding ability to pay and the child could learn at their own pace. So, we decided to create a company that we wished existed when we were in school to help today’s modern A-level chemists.
